Not far from Phaistos Palace, on the banks of the Geropotamos River, in a landscape of striking beauty, this is the most important site in Central Crete. The Villa d'Agia Triada, later transformed into a palace, is one of the most luxurious buildings that Crete has left. This palace was probably the summer residence of the royal family of Phaestos (1600-1550 B.C.), but another hypothesis suggests the possibility of an administrative centre, as many tablets, belonging to a large bureaucracy, have been found.
