As promised, here's some fresh news live from Matala. A small village in the south of Crete (1 hour drive from Heraklion), which at this time in 2010 had no more than twenty bathers. Today, thanks to a small Germanic group who had the idea to use this place historically frequented by hippies from all over the world (Janis Joplin, Bob, Dylan ...) to create logically a music festival in the same spirit right on the beach. And it's a real success because today during three days, on June 20, 21 and 22, Matala celebrates "Sa" music "Sa" way (see video below). The reputation of the village is growing and it's a good bet that within two or three years, either we'll only be walking from Pisidia or this festival will disappear like all the others of its kind. However, people continue to come here from all over Crete and the city currently enjoys an almost international aura. One washes his shirts full of patchouli in the sea water, and one rearranges the caves with "Mattresses" to smoke the peace pipe to the sound of the revolutionary guitars this time amplified. Most of the groups are local, but recently even the internationals have been trying their luck. Our advice: book well in advance in order to have a privileged place, and come by motorbike, because the car and caravan parks are squatted up to 4 km from the sacred place. As dressing code: Tattoo, crimped hair... The objects sold on the stands are handmade and inexpensive, such as beer and grills. It's folkloric, you have to come at least once before the municipality prohibits the regrouping of troops. I chose The Lions restaurant at my friend Dimitris's house to contemplate this unusual show while enjoying a grilled octopus with fries. www.visitmatala.com - "Peace, Love & Music Revolution".
