AGIOS NIKOLAOS CHURCH
Church, of neo-paleochristian style, dedicated to Saint Nicholas in Agios Nikolaos.
It is this small church dedicated to Saint Nicholas, built between the 7th and 9th centuries, which gave its name to the town. The church is a characteristic example of Byzantine architecture and, more precisely, of the neo-Paleochristian style. Its dome has preserved some fragments of the original paintings of the iconoclastic period, composed of geometric and vegetal forms. They have been mostly covered by 14th-century frescoes depicting figures of saints and addressing the theme of the Annunciation.
