Cave in Tzermiado, the oldest in Crete.
The oldest cave in Crete, also called Kronio cave, where the Englishmen Evans and Pendlebury discovered, during excavations started in 1936, various objects and tombs proving that it was inhabited in the Neolithic period. This is where the first Cretans of the Stone Age lived! Other objects from later periods have also been discovered here: earthenware idols covered with gold leaf, ivory statuettes... According to a legend, at the bottom of the cave there is a sow with her piglets, made of gold and guarded by a dragon
