Cave, an ancient place of worship in Psychro.
The cave was partially excavated in 1886 by archaeologists J. Chatzidakis and F. Halbherr and in 1897 by A. Evans. However, systematic and large-scale excavations began in 1896 by British archaeologists under the direction of David Hogarth. The discoveries made (which are in the Heraklion Museum) indicate that the cave was a place of worship from the pre-palatial period (2800-2300 BC) to the beginning of our era. All this on 2,200 m² with stalactites and stalagmites. Bring good shoes.

difficile d'accès et peu intéressant
difficile d'accès environ & km de monte sur une chemin bétonné qui grimpe beaucoup se fini par &(à de chemin de pierre avant de payé l'entrée 6 e . se visite seul par un circuit que fait l'escalier . quel dommage la grotte a tellement de lumière que les st alactiques et stalagmites sont vertes ou noires si les gens les ont touches y'a meme des champignons . pas d'explication d'histoire. au final peu interressant et decevant . a faire avec des baskets et pour les gens en bonne sante physique

UNE BONNE GRIMPETTE POUR ARRIVER A L'ENTREE DE LA GROTTE.AVANT D'ENTREE ON EMBRASE LE BEAU PLATEAU DE LASSITHI AVEC SES CULTURES PUIS ON ENTRE PAR DES ESCALIERS DANS LA GROTTE ET LA C'EST UN MAGNIFIQUE DECOR QUI NOUS ATTEND. METTRE DES BASKETS C'EST UN PLUS

Impressionnante grotte creusée à même la montagne. Le chemin est en pente raide et les escaliers qui permettent de descendre ensuite dans la grotte sont glissants et peu éclairés. Atmosphère un peu étrange, là où serait né Zeus... Les photos prises par un appareil assez sensible donnent une image beaucoup plus nette des merveilleuses concrétions calcaires de l'endroit. Et puis, quel panorama! Et les courageux petits ânes sont si sympa à photographier!
To reach the cave you must take a small path that winds in the mountain with a breathtaking view of the plateau. For non walkers, you can make the trip on the back of a donkey. The cave is very pretty, but lacks lighting.
