Minoan site of the prepalatial period at Pachia Ammos.

Minoan site from the pre-palatal period (between 2600 and 2200 BC) whose ruins in themselves are not impressive (yet the place is so attractive in spring): two main houses surrounded by smaller dwellings. One of them, the Red House, is built in such a way that the four corners are oriented to the four cardinal points. Here were discovered ceramics with black patterns on red and orange ochre backgrounds, exhibited in the museums of Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos. The site was destroyed in 2200 BC by a fire.
