AGIA FOTIA NECROPOLIS
Cemetery in Sitia, dating from the early Minoan period, the largest discovered to date.
This cemetery of 252 tombs, dating from the early Minoan period, is the most important one discovered to date. The majority of the tombs, including children's tombs, are underground burial mounds. A primitive tholos tomb (chamber and dome tomb) has also been found on the site. The funerary furnishings discovered here are impressive: 1,800 objects, in very good condition, including two lead talismans, a seal representing a beetle, a precious testimony to the relations between Crete and Egypt, a few figurines, bronze tools, etc.
