NAPOLEON'S HOUSE
House in Kato Mera, an interesting example of Venetian housing in Ierapetra.
In June 1798, on his way to Egypt, Bonaparte stopped for a night in a house of Ierapetra, located in Kato Mera. The next day, the owners found the following little note: "If you want to know who was your host, know that I am Napoleon Bonaparte"! A local curiosity, this house still exists today. Historians have searched there for traces of the famous conqueror's passage, in vain. Of modest size, it cannot be visited and is no longer inhabited. However, it offers an interesting example of the Venetian habitat in Ierapetra.
