PIRGOS SITE
A site containing an ancient Minoan villa and the largest Minoan cistern in Crete.
It is a Minoan villa destroyed by fire in 2200 BC and occupied again until 1450 BC. Volcanic material was found among the rubble, supporting the thesis that the destruction of the Minoan sites was due to the eruption of the Santorini volcano. Going down, to the left, are the largest cistern from the Minoan period (ca. 1900 BC) ever discovered in Crete and the remains of a paved path from the pre-palatal period that leads to a kind of cemetery. Superb view over the bay!
