KAPSA MONASTERY
Very beautiful monastery of the XVth century, on a cliff dominating the Libyan Sea, at the edge of the gorges of Perivolakas.
Very beautiful 15th century monastery, perched on a cliff overlooking the Libyan Sea on the edge of the spectacular Perivolakas Gorge. It can be visited, but it is still occupied by monks. It is an ideal place for a picnic. Beautiful icons decorate the walls and depict the life of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint. Founded in the Venetian period, it was first destroyed by Turkish pirates at the end of the 15th century and rebuilt. Most of the present buildings were rebuilt in the 19th century by a hermit named Yerontoiannis.
