RUMOUR BY RÁCZ JENÓ' - A RESTAURANT WITH A UNIQUE CONCEPT
This establishment has made a name for itself thanks to word-of-mouth, the perfect advertisement and a sign that quality is on theagenda. The Rumour restaurant is run by chef Rácz Jenő, who trained withJoël Robuchon inclassical cuisine before spending years perfecting his skills in Shanghai ,where he even won the prestigious Bocuse d'or Asie! Spending the evening there can be compared (with a little exaggeration) to an intimate dinner with a small number of friends, with themost spectacular elements of the preparations taking place in theopen kitchen , in the middle of the "stage". It's a theatrical experience , with everyone sitting at thehuge counter ,watching the show .Each dish has its own story that is played out in the mouth, and a tasting menu, half of which is plant-based, is colorful and introduces you to rare Hungarian ingredients . It'snot for nothing that Rumour has been awarded aMichelin star . Thesommelier willguide you through theextensive list of local and international wines andchampagnes on offer, while the bar on theupper floor, hidden from prying eyes like a speak-easy, matches therestaurant 's gastronomic experience .Zoltan Szabó, the barman, isknown for his avant-gardism. Did you know thathe reclaims ingredients not used in the kitchen to make cocktails ? This is part of therestaurant's zero-waste policy, and the gamble has paid off, as the cocktails on offer at the Mixology bar are delicious, like this gin and pea cocktail , or a whisky, ham and arugula oil cocktail .Surprising onpaper, but a revelation in the glass. The Rumour restaurant and bar are unmistakably unique in Budapest.
Nagyon tetszett nekünk az egész este, biztos visszamegyünk!
My journey at Rumour began with a delightful surprise—an extraordinary gift voucher presented on my birthday, unlocking the doors to an unparalleled culinary adventure.
Upon confirming your reservation, the journey begins. With a location shrouded in secrecy, guests embark on a quest, ultimately discovering a "clandestine" entrance that leads to an extraordinary culinary experience.
At Rumour, I encountered an unconventional yet mesmerizing dining affair. Seated at the counter, immersed in the kitchen's bustling rhythm, I embarked on the Pre-Theater experience curated by the ingenious Chef Racz Jeno and his synchronized team.
The feast that unfolded was not merely a culinary indulgence; it was a sensorial symphony. Each dish presented itself as a masterpiece, both in taste and aesthetics. The marriage of flavors, inspired by global cultures (from the chef's voyages), offered a tantalizing journey for the palate.
The simplicity and depth of flavors found in the burnt cauliflower dish left an indelible mark, showcasing the elegance in simplicity. Equally captivating was the Toriyama A5 Wagyu, a testament to culinary perfection and taste. But there was more as can be seen by the few photos that I took for my memories.
The allure of Rumour extends beyond its ever-changing menu; it resides within the artistry of Chef Racz Jeno. With every visit promising new delicacies and surprises, this dining haven thrives on innovation, ensuring an unforgettable experience with every return.
Moreover, the staff augmented the evening, adding a touch of warmth and hospitality to an already remarkable affair.
Rumour, with its mysterious charm and gastronomic prowess, exemplifies the epitome of fine dining in Budapest. A place where culinary whispers come to life, offering an unparalleled journey for those seeking culinary excellence and delightful surprises.
The quality of each dish is still excellent, and the theater seating remains an engaging experience. But the menu has gotten a lot shorter. One of us was still hungry after the meal. So no longer fantastic value or an absolute must.
