HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (HAC)
A remarkable institution, Hungary's largest research center and Budapest's first neo-Renaissance building.
The first neo-Renaissance building to be erected in the capital, the Academy of Sciences (1862-1864, Magyar Tudományos Akadémia) was founded by the reformist Count István Széchenyi in the second half of the 19th century. The execution of this building on the banks of the Danube was carried out by the famous Miklós Ybl, assisted by Antal Szkalnitzky. The Hall of Honour, decorated with frescoes by Károly Lotz, unfortunately cannot be visited! The institution is the largest research centre in Hungary.
