SAVINGS BANK (ORSZÁGOS POSTATAKARÉKPÉNZTÁR)
Postal savings bank in Budapest, housed in a remarkable Art Nouveau building which also houses the Hungarian treasury.
Completed in 1901 by Ödön Lechner, one of the most important architects of the Hungarian Secession movement, the building of the Postal Savings Bank in the Art Nouveau style is a real architectural achievement. The floral and plant motifs, from the beautiful roof to the multi-colored tiles, are inspired by Magyar folklore. On closer inspection, one can even see yellow beehives perched high up, symbolizing the ability to save. Today, the building houses the Hungarian treasury.
