FORMER BUDA TOWN HALL
Budapest's former town hall, a remarkable building dating from the late century and featuring a statue of Athena.
Built at the end of the 17th century from the remains of Gothic buildings under the direction of the Italian master builder Ceresola, the town hall lost its function in 1873 when Buda and Pest were united. A statue of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, stands in a recess in the corner wall facing Szentáromság Square. Its shield is decorated with the coat of arms of Buda. Since 2014, the building has been owned by a foundation managed by the Hungarian National Bank.
