Bridge linking the Gellért baths to Pest's main market, with a turul perched atop each of its pillars.
Linking the Gellért Baths to the Great Market in Pest, the Freedom Bridge was inaugurated for Hungary's Millennium celebrations by Emperor Franz Joseph, who drove in the last rivet. The building thus bore its name before being renamed by the Soviets, becoming the "Bridge of Freedom". Heavily damaged during the Second World War, it was rebuilt identically in 1946. At the top of each of the pillars is perched a "turul", a legendary Magyar bird.
