AQUINCUM MUSEUM AND RUINS (AQUINCUMI MÚZEUM)
The Aquincum Ruins Museum in Budapest is the place to go for a glimpse of the splendors of the Pannonian metropolis.
Part of the History Museum (BHM). Around 90 AD, the Romans conquered part of what is now Hungary, calling it Pannonia. The town of Aquincum grew in the 2nd and 3rd centuries to become the capital of Lower Pannonia, with a population of 14,000 at its peak. The ruins of Aquincum reveal all its splendours. An exhibition evokes the cult of Mithras. The garden between the ruins has preserved the remains of the Roman forum, public baths and market.
