PLACE VÖRÖSMARTY (VÖRÖSMARTY TÉR)
Square housing the statue of Hungarian Romantic poet Mihály Vörösmarty in Budapest, where the Földalatti metro starts.
Mihály Vörösmarty, a Hungarian romantic poet, gave his name to the square. His statue carved in Carrara marble is protected by a transparent plastic mantle, heated in winter. The Földalatti (metro 1), which leads to Bois-de-la-Ville, leaves from the square. The 3.7 km long underground line was inaugurated for the Millennium celebrations in 1896. His yellow wooden wagons completed the journey in 10 minutes. The metro vents have been restored to their original condition.
