INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGY (MAGYAR FÖLDTANI INTÉZET)
The Geological Institute in Budapest is housed in a remarkable building, a true masterpiece of the Hungarian Secession.
A masterpiece of the Hungarian Secession, the Geological Institute was built between 1897 and 1899 according to plans by Ödön Lechner and executed by Sándor Hauszmann. All the great architects of the time participated in the tender. Delicate blue Zsolnay ceramics decorate the façade (in a mixture of folk and geological motifs) and cover the roof of the building. At the top, a globe is supported by statues.
