One of the most important archaeological sites in Castilla-La Mancha, with remains including the ruins of an Iberian oppidum
Due to the area occupied (30 ha) and the importance of the remains (ruins of an Iberian oppidum and a medieval city with a wall and a castle), it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Castilla-La Mancha. Alarcos is also an essential place for the origins of Ciudad Real. It was here that the battle of 1195 took place, which saw the defeat of the Christian army before the Almohad army. This led Alfonso X, the wise man, to found Ciudad Real a little further on.
