On the occasion of Corpus Christi, many brotherhoods take part in this solemn procession through the decorated streets of Toledo, whose balconies are adorned with thousands of flowers and ancient banners. The procession accompanies the custodia, a superb monstrance dating from 1515, which is usually displayed in the Cathedral's treasure room. This jewel of Gothic goldsmithery was carved from the first gold coin brought back from America by Christopher Columbus. The festival is accompanied for a week by numerous events (concerts, shows, etc.).
