Toledo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural treasures. Capital of the province of the same name and of the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, Toledo has become a major tourist center in Spain. The city is irrigated by the Tagus River and its municipal territory covers 232 km2, with an average altitude of 529 meters. Toledo is known for its history and culture, with Bronze Age archaeological remains discovered on the Cerro del Bu hill. The city boasts many historic monuments, such as the alcázar of Toledo and the Alcántara bridge over the Tagus.
