ALCAZAR
Don't miss the Alcazar, which is now the home of the city's Army Museum
The alcazar is now the headquarters of the city's Army Museum. The current building is based on a site that was successively occupied by the Romans, Visigoths and Arabs. In 1535, King Charles V rebuilt the fortified palace there. On three occasions it was destroyed by fire, then almost entirely destroyed in 1936, following the siege of the Republican Army. During the dictatorship of General Franco, it became the symbol of military heroism. For its restoration, the original plans were used.
