OFFICE DU TOURISME
Illescas is an industrial town that also boasts a rich historical heritage. Not-to-be-missed sites include the parish church of La Asunción, with its mix of styles and periods, and the 16th-17th-century hospital-sanctuary of La Caridad, which houses a single-nave church with a collection of five magnificent paintings by El Greco. The Ugena Gate, an example of Mudejar dry masonry and brick construction, is also an interesting monument to discover. Illescas also boasts other buildings of architectural interest, such as the 18th-century Calle Real palace-house, the Baroque Convent of the Recepcionistas Franciscanas dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, and several historicist and modernist buildings. Illescas is an unmissable destination for lovers of history and architecture.
