ALCAZABA ÁRABIA
A fortification was built to protect the Roman bridge over the Guadiana River by establishing a permanent garrison
Built during the reign of Abd-al-Rhaman II, Emir of Cordoba, it was intended to protect the Roman bridge over the Guadiana River by establishing a permanent garrison. From the Arab period, it only preserves the underground cistern, fed by the infiltration of the river water. It can be accessed by two staircases and the walls with columns of Visigothic origin decorated with vegetal themes stand out. During the visit, we will also find remains from excavations: Roman houses, sections of the Roman road, calzada and old wall.
