CANDELARIA COLEGIATA
Unable to leave Zafra without visiting its sumptuous Colegiata of the Candelaria, the city's most emblematic religious building whose tower of brick dominates the urban landscape. Its construction begins in the middle of the sixteenth century, under the patronage of Feria, and will experience many changes in the following centuries, including the creation of its famous tower. Inside, it houses three first-class landings: the major retable, work of the Seville sculptor Blas de Escobar, started in 1656 and finalized in 1683 and two others in the chapel of La Virgen de Valvanera, the first realized in the Baroque style by the school of José de Churriguera, and above all the one called Zurbarán's retable, including several works by the painter, dated from 1644. The church also has a small museum of religious objects, including a very beautiful chalice.
