PALACE OF THE DUKES OF FERIA
Keeping the exterior of the ancient alcazaba, fortress, this xve century castle, residence of Feria's ducks, dominates the city of Zafra and is one of the iconic images. From the outside, it looks like a fortress, with its creamy dungeons, but its interior is that of a xve century palace, with a magnificent Renaissance-style white marble cloister, made according to the plans of Juan de Herrera. Don Lorenzo Suárez de Figueroa was built in 1437 with the aim of following the models of the Gothic palaces of the fifteenth century while applying the mutiny style to decoration. The building was then completed at the time of the second duke of Feria, who incorporated the roofs of the salón Dorado and the chapel, but also renovated, with the construction of the Renaissance patio and the establishment of a new garden, the place of parties and games. It was also then that a passage was built between the palace and the church of Santa Marina, also renovated, to make it a whole with the residence of the ducks. And there was a patio of armas, now public square, which was accessed by the door del Acebuche, then main access to the castle. Apart from the strong aspects of castle, patio, dorado and chapel with its Gothico-mutiny dome, the visit will allow you access to the upper parts of the palace, with magnificent views of the city at 360 degrees since you can practically turn around and also discover, in the dungeon, the paintings of the round chamber of spouses.
