MONASTERIO DE SAN JERÓNIMO DE YUSTE
Modest monastery of Hieronymites that has a church and two cloisters, Gothic and Renaissance in Cuacos de Yuste
After a long journey initiated at the Laredo port on September 28, 1556, Charles Quint arrived in Yuste on February 3, 1557. Overwhelmed by the beauty and tranquillity of the site, it is here that he withdrew after having abdicated his son Philippe II to spend the last months of his life. Founded in the th century, this small monastery of jeronimos has a church and two cloisters, one Gothic and the other Renaissance. Charles Quint ordered the construction of a small austere palace in the southern part of the convent, whose work was entrusted to the architect Gaspar de Vega between 1554 and 1555. This is where he séjournera until his death on 21 September 1558.
