CATEDRAL DE ZAMORA
Cathedral with a Byzantine-influenced scaled dome, with an altarpiece by Fernando Gallego and choir stalls by Jean de Bruxelles
The so-called "Pearl of the Duero" stands out for the originality of its scaled dome, which has been influenced by the
byzantine, supported by a lantern tower with 16 lined arches and became the icon of the city. Of its original gates, only the southern one, the Bishop's Gate, remains. In the 13th century a massive tower was added for defensive purposes and the cloister was completely rebuilt in the 17th century. The interior of this pure gem houses an altarpiece by Fernando Gallego and the choir stalls of John of Brussels (16th century).
