HERMITAGE SAN BAUDELIO
Church of Mozarabic style built in the eleventh century, dedicated to Saint Baudilus of Nimes in Berlanga de Duero
Built in the 11th century, this Mozarabic style church, singular in its entirety, is dedicated to Saint Baudilus of Nîmes. Eight arches, like the branches of a giant palm tree, one of the symbols of his martyrdom, rise from an enormous central pillar. Only two small openings let in a ray of light. The walls were decorated with Mozarabic and Romanesque frescoes. Today, they have been distributed in museums. On the 20th of May, to celebrate the Saint's feast day, the inhabitants make a pilgrimage to a spring near the church.
