ALCAZAR OF SEGOVIA
The Alcazar is located at the end of the old city and overlooks the rivers Eresma and Clamores
Located at the end of the old town, the alcazar is built on a high rocky spur. The first fortress built at this strategic location (it dominates the Eresma and Clamores rivers) dates from the 11th century. It was a royal residence in the 16th century, then a state prison and a military academy. Its current appearance as a fairy tale castle (Disneyland atmosphere) only dates back to 1862. It had to be rebuilt almost entirely after a fire and regained its original appearance 20 years later. An unmissable visit to Segovia.
