CATEDRAL DE ÁVILA
Cathedral built on the site of an old Romanesque church, houses the remains of Adolfo Suarez and a museum of sacred art
The main religious monument in Ávila, it was built on the site of an old Romanesque church in the mid-12th century by the architect Fruchel. Its apse joins the line of the wall, constituting a powerful rampart and giving proof of its dual function as a fortress and temple. It is considered to be the first Gothic cathedral in Spain, and houses, among other things, the remains of Adolfo Suaréz, former president of the government, and his wife. A museum of sacred art can be visited in the Cardinal's Chapel (Cardenal).
