BASÍLICA DE SAN VINCENTE
Basilica in Romanesque style, built between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries in Avila
This basilica in veined sandstone was built between the 11th and 14th centuries in a Romanesque style, known as the transition to Gothic. It was built on the presumed site of the graves of the martyr Saint Vincent and his sisters who, as Christians, were persecuted by Daciano in the 4th century. Under a canopy, notice the sarcophagus of Saint Vincent decorated with sculptures representing violent scenes. The crypt is dedicated to the Virgen de la Soterraña, patron saint of Ávila. On the way back, admire the superb cross vaults.
