CHURCH AND CLOISTER OF SAN PEDRO EL VIEJO
Church and cloister that form one of the most important sets of Aragonese art in Huesca
Built both in the th century, these elements form one of the most important ensembles of Aragonese art. And note as a typical example of this architectural style, the portal, decorated with a superb chrisme, a Trinitarian symbol falling within that period. A large hexagonal tower stands in one of the wings of the temple. But above all, it is the Romanesque cloister, preserved from the old monastery which is the highlight of the visit. Dating back to 1149 and restored in the 18 th century, it consists of Romanesque capitals carved, of which are original reproductions made in the th century. These capitals represent the life of Jesus and include other historical or allegorical motifs such as the «capitel of bailarina». It also houses the pantheon of the Kings Alfonso I, Batailleur and Ramiro II, the Monk. It is recommended to take its time to appreciate the wanderings in this place.
