CITADEL - CIUDADELA
Citadel used as a defensive work, now a site where you can admire statues, attend exhibitions and open-air concerts
This group of walls overlooking the city, with interior gardens, was built by Philip II (redesigned in the 16th-17th centuries) and was one of the most advanced defensive works of his time. Today, it is a pleasant place to walk around and admire the buildings and statues scattered here and there in the park, including one by Jorge Oteiza (it's up to you to find it again!). Temporary exhibitions and open-air concerts are also regularly held here. A relaxing and historical stopover that is highly recommended.
