SANTIAGO CHURCH
Church in a stopover town of the Camino Aragonés where you can admire its tympanum at the entrance and its gothic style inside
A stopover town on the Camino Aragonés (the section of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela along the River Aragon), Sangüesa pays homage to the Apostle Saint James with this church dedicated to him. Two representations of the holy man offer themselves to the pilgrim's eye: the first one presides over the tympanum of the entrance, while the other, in Gothic style, is inside the church. These two elements, together with the altarpiece of San Eloy (16th century), are the jewels of this edifice built between the 12th and 13th centuries, a fine example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic.
