IGLESIA DE SAN PEDRO DE LA RÚA
Church with a beautiful portal of Arab influence richly decorated in Estella-Lizarra with an altarpiece of Santa Elena
Opposite the Palace of the Kings of Navarre is the oldest and most famous church in Estella, that of San Pedro de la Rúa, whose construction dates back to the 12th century. The church has a beautiful, richly decorated Arabic-influenced portal. Inside, its 12th-century cloister is considered one of the jewels of Romanesque art in Navarre. Another noteworthy element is the altarpiece of Santa Elena, dating from 1406, which depicts Mary unveiling the cross on which Jesus died.
