IGLESIA DE SANTA MARIA
Gothic style church in Viana with a Renaissance portal and a Gothic chapel with paintings
In the Calle Mayor is the Gothic church of Santa Maria, with the sepulchre of Caesar Borgia, who inspired Machiavelli to write his most famous work, The Prince (published in 1532). Built between 1250 and 1312 in the Gothic style, it was completed in the 16th and 18th centuries. It has a Renaissance portal, one of the most beautiful in Spain, as well as the Chapel of the Ramo, added in the 18th century to its Gothic base and decorated with paintings. If only for this church, a stop in Viana is recommended!
