MONASTERY OF SANTA ELENA
Monastery founded in the century in Nájera, comprising a church, cloister and outbuildings inhabited by Poor Clare sisters.
It was originally a monastery founded in the 16th century by Doña Aldonza Manrique de Lara, daughter of the Dukes of Nájera, of which nothing remains. The current monastic complex dates from the 17th century. It consists of a church, a cloister and outbuildings inhabited by the Poor Clare sisters. Inside the church (the only part of the monastery that is open to visitors) there are interesting Rococo altarpieces and a large Baroque altarpiece by Mateo Rubalcaba, in the centre of which stands an image of Saint Helena.
