MONASTERY OF SANTA MARÍA LA REAL
Monastery founded in 1052, with a beautiful Knights' cloister, a blend of Gothic, Plateresque and Renaissance art.
Founded in 1052 by King García de Nájera in honour of the Virgin who intervened to give him victory over the Moors in Calahorra. This monastery has a beautiful cloister of the Knights, a mixture of Gothic, Plateresque and Renaissance art. The current church, which is a continuation of the primitive Romanesque church, dates from 1516 and consists of three naves and a transept. In the centre of the altar is the main, Baroque altarpiece: a Santa María la Real holding the Child on her knee.
