YUSO MONASTERY
Monastery in Cogolla to admire works of art, including a precious reliquary casket decorated with ivory figures.
Its construction is attributed to King García de Najera, who wanted to transfer the relics of San Millán to it. The imposing mass of the monastery of Yuso ("from below"), known as "El Escorial de la Rioja", is spread out below the hamlet. Its cloister is distinguished by the flamboyant (and Gothic) elegance of its ornaments and medallions. There are also some works of art on display in a small museum, including a precious 11th-century reliquary box decorated with ivory figures. The library is of primary importance from a monastic point of view.
