SUSO MONASTERY
The monastery at Cogolla contains important remains testifying to the various architectural changes over the ages.
Of the present Suso ("from above") monastery, built between the 6th and 11th centuries, there are still some important remains that bear witness to the various architectural changes over the ages: the rock caves where the hermits lived and from which the monastery was built; the Mozarabic temple built in the 10th century, whose arches open out onto the valley; and the Visigothic and Romanesque remains. An important collection of manuscripts and codices came out of the scriptorium of the monastery, one of the most brilliant of the Middle Ages in Spain.
