HERMITAGE OF SANTA MARÍA DE PEÑALBA
Hermitage in the former hamlet of Peñalba, featuring a Romanesque sculpture of the Virgin of the Annunciation.
In the old hamlet of Peñalba, now abandoned, stands on a promontory this old hermitage, probably built in the 10th century. It is one of the few Mozarabic buildings still standing in Spain. The building has two naves and two bays organised around a central pillar from which four semicircular arches start, giving the whole the shape of a palm tree. Inside there is a 13th-century Romanesque sculpture of the Virgin of the Annunciation.
