IGLESIA DE SAN FRANCISCO
Church with a magnificent pre-Churrigueresque altarpiece in Laredo.
Built at the end of the 16th century by Franciscan monks, this church illustrates the arrival of classicism in Laredo. It consists of a single nave with eight side chapels and preserves a magnificent pre-Churrigueresque altarpiece dedicated to Saint Francis, dated 1665 and rebuilt in the 18th century. Several of its chapels were financed by the noble families of Laredo and are richly decorated. Since the 19th century, the Trinitarian nuns have been living here. Above the entrance to the convent, note the coat of arms of the Villa de Laredo.
