Church with a remarkable altarpiece in Laredo, one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Cantabria
Classified as a National Monument, the Church of Santa María de la Asunción is one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Cantabria. Built in the 13th century, it preserves its three naves and two portals from that period, while most of the chapels were built in the 17th century. Its 15th-century altarpiece of the Virgin of Belén is the jewel of the church, considered the finest polychrome sculpture of Flemish painting in Cantabria.
