CONVENTO DE SANTA CRUZ
A remarkable convent, one of the most representative buildings of Santander.
The convent of Santa Cruz, built in the 17th century, later housed a tobacco factory (now closed). It is one of the most representative buildings in Santander. For centuries, many communities settled there: Franciscan nuns, Poor Clares, the poor... until 1835, when the inhabitants of the time were expelled. Three years later, the building was used as a tobacco factory, which closed in 2002 when production was transferred to the new factory in Entrambasaguas, west of Liérganes.
