EL CAPRICHO DE GAUDÍ
A remarkable villa in Comillas, a jewel of modernist architecture.
This jewel of modernist architecture was built at the end of the 19th century, to the designs of the whimsical Antonio Gaudí, for one of the daughters of the wealthy Marquis of Comillas. The wedding present (or little caprice) joyfully combines red and green bricks with sunflowers, while combining Moorish, Mudejar and Oriental styles. Gaudí was young at the time, and here he was experimenting with what would later characterise his work. It is one of the three creations that the architect designed outside Catalonia.
