CASTILLO DEL REY
Castle on a rocky promontory housing an exhibition dedicated to the history of the city of San Vincente
Situated on a rocky promontory, the Castle of San Vicente dates from the 13th century. It was built in ashlar on the orders of King Alfonso VIII, who wished to establish a strategic defensive work. The building kept its promise until the 15th century, when the Catholic Monarchs turned it into a prison. Today, the place houses an exhibition dedicated to the history of the city of San Vicente. Also worth seeing are the walls that surround the old town from the castle and the beautiful views of the Cantabrian Sea.
