SANTA MARÍA CATHEDRAL
Cathedral in Romanesque style with three naves, then added chapels, the central one with a figure of Virgin with large eyes
The construction of this Catholic cathedral began in 1129, under the control of Raimundo de Monforte. At the beginning, it was designed in Romanesque style, with a cross-shaped line and three longitudinal naves. However, in the 14th century, five Gothic-style chapels were added. In the 18th century, the central chapel was replaced by a larger one, which preserves a figure of the Virgin with large eyes to which the inhabitants devote great devotion. Today it combines Romanesque, Baroque, Gothic and Neoclassical styles.
