COLEGIO DE FONSECA
First building of the University of Santiago with a beautiful cloister, now the seat of the university library
In Calle do Franco, you can admire old colleges, such as Fonseca, dating from the Renaissance. It was the first building of the University of Santiago and was opened in 1544. You can admire its beautiful double façade decorated with Gothic statues. In the middle of the frieze that decorates the two bodies of the building, we can see the coat of arms with the five stars of the Fonseca family, surrounded by the sculptures of the Doctors of the Church. Today, the building houses the university library. Inside, you can visit its beautiful cloister.
