AYUNTAMIENTO (TOWN HALL)
Neoclassical building in front of the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela with a town hall
Opposite the cathedral, the neoclassical Palacio de Rajoy houses the town hall and is currently the seat of the presidency of the Xunta (Community) of Galicia. Its construction was ordered by the Archbishop of Compostela, Bartolomé Raxoi y Losada, in the 18th century, originally as a seminary for confessors. The building was designed by the French architect Charles Lemaur. On the façade, note the relief depicting the Battle of Clavijo, during the Reconquest.
